I am now writing because a couple of hours ago I found myself instant messaging with this amazing Canadian woman, Kate, who I met while I was in Spain during the winter. This afternoon we were writing these little notes and it was alternately wonderful - to connect openly with a near stranger, and terrible, as there was so much more to say and we couldn't type quickly enough. I barely met her in a hostel in Madrid, yet she was so likable I wished she would visit the Northwest immediately so that we could become better friends. She is even a veterinarian.
When I started writing on this thing to probably no one, I couldn't even bring myself to tell no one that the earliest pictures, they are from Spain. I took them during a month away in desperate need of light. The dull drab gray winters of the northwest aren't especially cold but they are dreary. Leaving for a spell helps immeasurably.
Yes, I should be regaling this page with anecdotes about Smoky the press and his weird smells this afternoon but I'd rather talk about friends because friends are wonderful. Also I hope Kate starts to write a blog because it's fun and she probably has amazing animal and human stories to share and then I hope she comes to Portland, borrows one of my bicycles and learns the city by heart.
