I was just sitting in the backyard at the wooden picnic table, drawing my hands and feet and trying to be calm. It feels amazing to be alive today. We have sun.
I was able to have coffee with the amazing Tuey Burns this morning. In Portland she is best known for having thrown a year of delicious cake parties. The cake parties were once a month events with the underlying intention of fostering community and friendship. For one year, Tuey baked giant cakes and invited any number of people by postcard or by mouth but never by email or text message as these forms of communication are too impersonal. Over cake and coffee or tea, all sorts of connections were made. She is one of those people who is also a bridge. We spent all morning discussing our favorite cookbooks, and then food and relationships. What else is there to talk about?
here is a list of her recent favorite cooking blogs.

ReplyDeleteAnd, I am noticing how when you pick up your pencils -- voila -- you get a journal cover... (and a nice one!) vs. clicking and being distracted on the internet... maybe pencils are your secret weapon!
